Unión Radio, as part of its Strategic Development Plan aimed at consolidating growth targets, the implementation of a strategy for development and adaptation to the new technological challenges of the market, has decided to strengthen its management structure by appointing Javier Cortezón as Director General of Union Radio, and Javier Viroomal as director of Union Radio's Digital Radio Division.
Union Radio turnover was 377.17 million euros, with EBITDA at 100 million euros. International Radio EBITDA increased by 53.5% to 18.79 million euros and saw margins rise by seven points to 20.3%. Radio broadcaster SER closed 2009 with 4,819,000 listeners and is audience leader across all time slots.
Javier Pons has been named deputy managing director of Unión Radio by the company board. The appointment was proposed by CEO Augusto Delkader. As the company's number two, Pons will be responsible for developing Unión Radio's strategic plans across all areas and territories, with special emphasis on the Hispanic market in the US and Latin America.
Radio broadcast company Unión Radio today announced the completion of an agreement with venture capital investment fund 3i which will see 3i take a minority stake in the radio operator via a private placement and capital increase. The deal was initially signed on December 19, 2007. Unión Radio owns 100% of Cadena SER and Grupo Latino de Radio (GLR).
Chile’s Supreme Court has unanimously rejected all objections lodged with the country’s Competition Tribunal in the wake of Unión Radio’s (owned by Grupo Prisa) acquisition of Iberoamericana. The supreme court ruled that the operation had respected at all times the country’s competition legislation.
PRISA subsidiary Unión Radio has strengthened its position as the leading group in the Spanish-language radio market. The PRISA radio operator has acquired 100% of Grupo Iberoamericana Radio Chile from Claxson Chile, S. A. The takeover, subject to Chile’s competition laws, was carried out through the subsidiary GLR (Grupo Latino de Radio) Chile, Ltda.
Grupo Prisa and Grupo Godó have agreed to merge their stakes in the Sociedad Española de Radiodifución (SER), Antena 3 and Grupo Latino de Radio (GLR). The resulting merger creates Unión Radio, with revenues of 350 million euros annually, in which Prisa and Grupo Godó hold an 80% and 20% stake, respectively, in the new company.
